Equine Rescue Programs

Auction Rescues

Many horses brought to auctions are very nice, serviceably sound, adoptable horses with a curable illness or an injury that in time, will heal. We provide a home and a nurturing environment to help bring about those changes. We also rescue from the slaughterhouse: we buy the most adoptable horses before they get to the slaughterhouse.

Private Donations and Race Track Rescue

We receive ex-race horses into our program as well as privately owned horses. Many owners choose to donate their loved equines to rescues rather than send them to auction or sell them on the open market.

PMU Foal Rescue

"PMU" means pregnant mare urine. PMU is processed into conjugated estrogen. Some women take estrogen as part of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to relieve symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings during menopause. "PMU" mares are stabled under highly controversial and unimaginable conditions to concentrate and retrieve their urine. The foals are taken from their mothers shortly after birth and the mare is impregnated to continue the cycle. Foals are shipped to auctions and sold to the highest bidders. Many bidders are slaughterhouse representatives. This rescue aids other rescues in the purchase of foals at auction or at PMU farms. These foals make wonderful pleasure, sport or fine show horses.

New Beginnings Programs

  • Sponsor a Horse. The rescue spends on average $5.00/day to care for each of our horses. Sponsoring a horse for a day or longer allows the rescue to purchase much needed equipment, special medicines or other supplements individual horses may require.
  • Decorated Horseshoes for Donations. A wonderful all-occasion gift!! Each $10.00 or more donation receives a pre-worn horseshoe from one of our wonderful equines. The shoes are sandblasted, painted and decorated with dried flowers. A leather string completes the decoration and allows the shoe to hang on doors, walls or windows.
  • Take-a-Picture Card: For a $5 donation, have your picture taken on a rescue horse. We can make them into great Christmas, Birthday or any occasion cards! Create a memory while supporting a worthy cause!
  • Own a Rescue Horse for a Day, a Week, a Month or Longer. Have you or your children ever wanted to own a horse, but are unsure about making a long-term commitment? Are you unsure about the costs or work involved in horse ownership? We have several older horses ready and willing to be "owned" by someone for a day or more. On-farm ownership responsibilities include keeping a balance sheet on costs, feeding the horse, mucking the stalls, grooming and riding. Staff supervises all "ownerships." It is a wonderful educational experience for adults as well as children. Call for details and costs. "Ownership" is subject to approval by New Beginnings board members.

  • Adopt-A-Horse. We have several wonderful horses available for adoption. Ages range from 3 to 25 years old. All need homes. Please call us for a complete list.

DONATIONS

All donations welcome! Our equines eat between 8 and 10 pounds of grain per day and at least ½ of a bale of hay each per day. Special medications add to the costs. Donations of one bag of grain, one bale of hay or one bottle of medicine are gladly accepted! Cash donations are always accepted and welcomed! Donations of materials to build shelters are also accepted. ALL proceeds go directly to the horses. All staff are volunteers and take NO salaries or compensation.
